Excerpt from a private letter to an English correspondent

8th January 1970



            [I manage to keep well in spite of all the malicious efforts of the hotel cook to lay me low. So far my success has been due wholly to my persevering efforts to escape from his toils. Thus, I suppose I am the only visitor here who, to the amazement of the waiters contrives to keep alive on salads, cheeses & fruit.]
